Why aren’t we providing on-site parking for staff who work at the new Downtown Commons Medical Offices?

To ensure exceptional service to our members and patients, it is essential that their experience in accessing our services is convenient and easy. As a result, on-site parking at our facilities downtown will be reserved for our members only. We must all do our part to ensure parking availability for our members and patients. Thank you for your continued cooperation as we strive to put our members first.

What are transportation alternatives I might take advantage of?

There are a variety of options that include park and shuttle, transit, biking, carpool, and vanpool. Go to Commuter Programs to learn more about alternatives to driving downtown.

Downtown Sacramento is well-served with three Sacramento Light Rail lines, Amtrak, and 13 bus operators many of whom operate express bus service. Carpooling and vanpooling are also options.  Bike lanes exist downtown, particularly around the three downtown KP facilities.  A KP employee Bicycle Users Group for the North Valley exists with the mission to increase the safety, frequency, and joy of bicycle riding. The BUG website is kaisersac.kp.org/BUG, accessible from the North Valley home page. Email BUG.Morse@kp.org with questions.

What are the transportation options for staff who choose to drive?

A dedicated KP surface lot is located at 2300 Front Street. A shuttle service will operate to our downtown medical offices. Parking will be $40 per month, which is significantly less than the average cost to park in the immediate downtown area and includes unlimited parking so you can use the lot on nights and weekends. this also included the shuttle service to the downtown medical offices.  The lot includes these amenities:

  • 300 spaces
  • Shuttle shelter
  • On-site security
  • Key card access
  • ADA compliant
  • Bike and pedestrian friendly lanes and paths serve entire trip between KP and lot

The shuttle will accommodate all shifts at the medical offices.:

  • Shuttles to operate 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • 7-minute shuttle ride to 501 J St
  • ADA compliant

Do other health care providers with facilities near downtown also charge staff for parking?

Yes. Sutter, Mercy, UC Davis charge physicians, staff and patients for parking in the downtown Sacramento area.

Will I be paid for the time it takes me to shuttle to my work site?

No. As is current practice, employees will be paid when their shift begins.

If I use the park and shuttle, how will I access my car if I need it unexpectedly?

An Emergency Ride Home in the form of a taxi or rental car will be available six times a year to employees who use a commute alternative at least three days a week. Register in the Sacramento Commuter Club to access the Emergency Ride Home vouchers at www.sacramento-tma.org/EmergencyRideHome.html.

Zipcar is a car share service that allows the convenience of driving without the hassle of owning a car. Employees who don’t drive to work have the option to rent a car for as little as $8/hour to make mid-day errands or travel to an offsite meeting.

Can I park on site if I am accessing services there? What about if I am bringing to an appointment someone else, such as my child or parent?

If you are accessing services there, you can park in the on-site garage as our members do.

What are my biking options?

Our Downtown Commons Medical Offices features:

  • Secure, badge-access employee bike cage located inside parking garage
  • Showers near employee entrance
  • 10 short-term bike stalls located near the main entrance

Will there be electric vehicle parking at the employee lot?

At this time, there are no electric vehicle spaces however this is something we are looking into for the future.

Will members also be charged for parking on site?

Members will have validated parking for a specified period of time, and then charged for the time thereafter.  It is common practice that parking in downtown Sacramento has associated fees, and this is consistent with other health care providers’ parking practices.

What will members be charged?

Onsite member parking will be free for the first two hours with validation and $2 for every 20 minutes after that for a maximum of $20 a day. Parking fees and time limits may vary for certain medical services and additional validation will be provided if needed. Parking at Sports Medicine will continue to be no cost.

How can I get help determining the best transportation mode for me?
